does anyone know of any businesses that donate their second hand computers on, or places who might donated some computers to charities? The laptops we use to run our email service are now more than 10 years old, and no longer work efficiently. Ideally we need two laptops with a windows OS and the ability to access the internet (they don’t need word functionality, although that would be a bonus).
Any leads appreciated!
The ones that businesses donate are often not much better than your own.
If you know any technophiles, you often get more up to date donations from the sort of person who’s always getting the next model – try an appeal in university circles???
Alternatively, there are quite a few grants that will pay for equipment/technology & it may be better using those to get something that will last.
Hi Lisa – we’ve used http://www.computersforcharities.org/lowcost in the past. They were friendly and helpful. The best bit was that the computers came ‘ready out of the box’ with software like anti virus and office installed on them. However the ones we chose were cheap (and hence low spec) and they took a long time to boot up etc so were quite frustrating. When we ordered pcs again we spent a bit more, buying second hand via amazon. You can search for ‘refurbished laptops’… I see that the above org, do have higher spec machines now…
